Westbank/Kelowna Community-Based Experiential Learning Session

The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs), a partnership between Doctors of BC and the BC government, are hosting a Community-Based Experiential Learning session in collaboration with Len Pierre Consulting on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Westbank First Nations Elders Hall in Westbank, BC.
This session provides cultural safety and humility teachings through immersive learning and provides opportunities for ongoing relationship-building with Indigenous communities.
During these sessions, physicians will experience:
- Cultural safety teachings through an immersive, “circle and the box” learning
- Teachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communities
- A shared meal, language, history, and stories
- A deeper understanding of residential school trauma.
- Connections with local health staff and providers.
- The opportunity for ongoing learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities.
Please note that space is limited to 60 participants.
Sessional time, dinner, and mileage exceeding 50 km one-way are provided. We welcome registration from interprofessional team members (ITMs) who make up team-based care and offer a stipend to ITMs who are not salaried.
We are grateful to hold this session on the unceded, ancestral, and traditional territory of Westbank First Nation, one of eight member communities who inhabit the traditional territories of the syilx/Okanagan people.
