SUMMARY:Lil’wat/Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Whistler) Community-Based Experiential Learning Session
DESCRIPTION:The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs)\, a partnership between Doctors of BC and the BC government\, are hosting a Community-Based Experiential Learning session in collaboration with Len Pierre Consulting on Wednesday\, April 15\, 2026 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Líl̓wat7úl Cultural Centre in Whistler\, BC. \nThis session provides cultural safety and humility teachings through immersive learning and provides opportunities for ongoing relationship-building with Indigenous communities. \nDuring these sessions\, physicians will experience: \n\nCultural safety teachings through an immersive\, “circle and the box” learning\nTeachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communities\nA shared meal\, language\, history\, and stories\nA deeper understanding of residential school trauma.\nConnections with local health staff and providers.\nThe opportunity for ongoing learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities.\n\nPlease note that space is limited to 60 participants. \nSessional time\, dinner\, and mileage exceeding 50 km one-way are provided. We welcome registration from interprofessional team members (ITMs) who make up team-based care and offer a stipend to ITMs who are not salaried. \nWe are grateful to hold this session on the unceded\, ancestral\, and traditional shared territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and Líl̓wat7úl (Lil’wat) Nations. \nRegister.
