SUMMARY:Shxw'ōwhámel First Nation community-based experiential learning session
DESCRIPTION:The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs)\, in partnership with Len Pierre Consulting and Shxw’ōwhámel First Nation will be hosting a cultural experiential learning session for physicians on Wednesday\, June 5th\, 2024*. \nSpace is limited to 50 participants. \nDuring these sessions\, physicians will experience: \n\nCultural safety teachings through interactive\, “circle and the box” learning.\nTeachings and protocol from the local/regional Indigenous communities.\nTraditional foods\, songs\, protocols\, language\, history\, and stories.\nA deeper understanding of residential school trauma.\nConnections with local health staff and providers.\nThe opportunity for on-going learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities.\n\nIn these sessions\, themes of colonial genocide\, systematic separation from Indigenous identity\, land and culture and the resulting mental and physical health disparities\, will be discussed. These themes may surface personal stories and participants are encouraged to prepare to hear this difficult journey. \nPlease note that sessionals will be covered by the JCCs.
