DESCRIPTION:The JCCs in partnership with Len Pierre Consulting are holding a Community-Based Experiential Learning session on Wednesday\, April 30th\, 2025\, 5-9pm at the SȾÁUTW̱ (Tsawout) Longhouse in Saanichton (Greater Victoria). We are grateful to have permission to hold this session on the unceded\, ancestral\, and traditional territories of the W̱SÁNEC people\, in the ancient village of SȾÁUTW̱ and in their sacred home (longhouse). \nRegister for the event. \nDuring these sessions\, physicians will experience: \n\nCultural safety teachings through an immersive\, “circle and the box” learning\nTeachings and protocols from local/regional Indigenous communities\nA shared meal\, language\, history\, and stories\nA deeper understanding of residential school trauma.\nConnections with local health staff and providers.\nThe opportunity for on-going learning and relationship-building between participants and Indigenous communities.\n\nIn these sessions\, themes of colonial genocide\, systematic separation from Indigenous identity\, land and culture and the resulting mental and physical health disparities\, will be discussed. SUMMARY:West Bank First Nation Community-based experiential learning session
DESCRIPTION:The Joint Collaborative Committees (JCCs) have partnered with Len Pierre Consulting and Westbank First Nation to host a cultural experiential learning session for physicians on Tuesday\, April 25th\, 2023\, from 5:00-9:00pm. \nPhysicians will experience: \n\nA deeper understanding about residential school trauma\nCultural safety education through interactive cultural learning within the First Nation community\nTraditional food\, dwelling\, songs\, protocols\, language\, history and stories\nConnect with local health staff and providers that work in the First Nation community\nA learning experience that encourages on-going learning and relationship building between participants and Indigenous communities\n\nThis session will be located at the Westbank Health Centre\, 1900 Quail Lane in Westbank. Registration is limited to 40 participants\, so please register early. \nPlease note that sessionals will be covered by the JCCs. Per the JCC Honoraria & Sessional Reimbursement Guidelines mileage of fewer than 50kms one way will not be reimbursed and we will be unable to reimburse for flights and/or accommodations\, see link. \nFor further questions\, please contact jcc@doctorsofbc.ca. \nRegister here.
